Hong Kong Airlines awarded for commitment to safety in airport community

An internal awards presentation ceremony was held at HKA Training Academy recently to recognize employees from operational departments for their commitment to safety. Hosted by Hong Kong Airlines Chief Executive Officer Captain Jeff Sun and Director of Corporate Safety, Quality Assurance & Security, Captain Alex Linhares, the awardees were congratulated and commended for their efforts in pursuing safety excellence.

Hong Kong Airlines received HKIA Safety Excellence Award (Merit) in the Corporate category.

The Airport Safety Recognition Scheme established by the Airport Authority Hong Kong is held annually to recognize the airport community for their contributions to safety. Hong Kong Airlines bagged the HKIA Safety Excellence Award (Merit) at the corporate level while operational employees received individual awards for their contributions in other safety categories, including Accident Preventive Measures, Best Safety Supervisor and Good Safety Suggestions categories in the 2020/21 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme.

Accolades include managing safety risks in a systematic yet flexible and just manner to safeguard its passengers, employees and company assets. To reinforce workplace safety, special campaigns were launched to raise awareness on health issues when operating under seasonal weather changes. Operational staff also proactively address industry risks and evaluate occurrences from various stakeholders to develop and strengthen its multi-layered accident preventive measures.

Jacky Yau achieved the Best Safety Supervisor award for his dedication to Joint inspections and HRM.
Hong Kong Airlines staff congratulated on their excellent achievement in the 2020/21 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme.

“Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have been operating in an ever-changing environment. While this poses a challenge to our business and operations, Hong Kong Airlines has continuously managed its safety risks to comply with regulations and uphold best practices in safety management,” said Captain Sun in his address to staff.

“As we focus more on cargo business, we will continue to raise safety awareness, especially in the area of dangerous goods handling, regularly review our standard operations procedures and conduct more audits to ensure a safe cargo operation,” he added.

“The past year has been one of the most challenging periods in Hong Kong Airlines’ history but our commitment to safety has not wavered,” said Captain Alex Linhares.

“These awards reflect the professionalism and efforts of our colleagues and we are very proud of their achievement during this difficult period for the aviation industry. We will continue to ride on our success as a team to uphold safety excellence at all times,” he added.
