Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. With inflight F&B service temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, Hong Kong Airlines has donated items ranging from beverages to packaged nuts to food banks in Hong Kong to support the needy.
Since December 2020, some 100,000 items in total have been donated, including 1-litre pack juices, ginger ale, salted nuts, Chinese tea bags and salad dressing. NGOs like Feeding Hong Kong and Youth with a Mission then help to redistribute these items to the less advantaged groups, including the elderly living alone or underprivileged families in the community.
“Many people have been affected by the pandemic, and struggle to put food on the table. We hope these items, however big or small, can provide some relief to these individuals and their families,” said Chris Birt, Director of Service Delivery at Hong Kong Airlines.
“We will continue to review our inflight stock on a regular basis and repurpose the items in a meaningful way,” he added.
