Journey to a soulful mountain near Yonago

For hikers, Mt Fuji is as famous for its crowds as it is for its views. Trekkers seeking solitude will be better served by climbing the holy mountain Daisen in Daisen-Oki National Park. The best route up is a path that’s long been favoured by pilgrims visiting the ancient Ogamiyama shrine and Daisen-ji temple – both peaceful settings for quiet contemplation. While only the avid climber will want to ascend to the 1,729m summit, which takes the better part of a day, all can enjoy a stroll around the forestland at the mountain’s base, teeming with an abundance of native flora and fauna.
