There’s a spot in Hokkaido where you can quite literally be on cloud nine. Unkai occurs when clouds trapped between mountains form a dense blanket that resembles a so-called
“sea of clouds”. Check out this spectacular sight at Hoshino Resorts Tomamu. Its 1,088m observation facility, Unkai Terrace, is only open during summer months, until 15 October. Take a leisurely stroll on the suspension bridge, relax on Cloud Pool – a giant hammock of sorts – or grab a seat at the newly opened Cloud Bar to take in breathtaking views. Tomamu is located two hours away from Sapporo by car or train.
