Hong Kong’s next generation of auteurs is taking the craft of filmmaking into the future with experimental films that harness emerging tech. Virtual reality film Kowloon Forest follows five strangers – a Filipina domestic worker, an artist, a musician, an astrologer and a Chinese businessman – through their private lives in Hong Kong. While virtual reality is usually deployed in expansive environments, director Alexey Marfin has used it to capture his protagonists in their personal spaces to create a sense of intimacy. Catch Kowloon Forest at Osage Gallery, from 5-28 July.
