Hong Kong Airlines brings a batch of 20 students on a tour of its aircraft and facilities as part of its Junior Programme
Hong Kong Airlines’ Junior Programme is the airline’s signature student programme. All primary and secondary schools, youth education organisations as well as aviation-related organisations are invited to apply.
During the 28th instalment of the event, held on 12 April, 20 participants from St James’ Settlement Career Visit programme – STFA Cheng Yu Tung Secondary School got the rare chance to learn about aircraft and ground operations from key personnel, including the airline’s captains, crew members and ground staff.
At the check-in counters, students learnt more about baggage handling, check-in procedures and special passenger handling. They also found out how Hong Kong Airlines goes the extra mile in customer service through an introduction to Above and Beyond. A uniquely Hong Kong Airlines initiative, the programme gives extra care to families, provides help for passengers who require medical support on their travels, special birthday treats and more.
Captains Tat Ng and Joel Lee also took the students on a tour of the A330 aircraft and cockpit, where they learnt about the finer points of airline operations, from cabin crew pre-flight briefings to Business and Economy Class seat operations, galley operations and more behind-the-scenes considerations.
Hong Kong Airlines has brought this unique experience to about 500 local students to date, always with an overwhelmingly positive response from schools and parents. The programme aims to equip the next generation with aviation knowledge and to cultivate their interest in the field.
